The opportunity
The UK Life business is in the midst of transforming itself to become best at protecting lives and loved ones. This vision encapsulates how we are aiming to help people in every part of the country with products and services that better meet their needs than those of our competitors.
The role of our First Line Governance Function is to support the Life business to operate and grow, safely – delivering good outcomes for all our stakeholders. Do you share the same passion as us? If so, we would love to hear from you. We are looking for someone to provide ongoing support and oversight across UK Life. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the industry, regulatory frameworks, and governance practices and will support and facilitate the evolution and overall integrity of the UK Life governance model to best meet internal and external requirements.
Zurich embraces flexible working so you will be able to work from home but we would ideally like you to spend some in our Swindon office so you can work closely with others in the team and the wider business.
Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part-time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.
What will you be doing?
- Hold oversight for ongoing regulatory compliance for our open to new business and closed books with a particular focus on compliance with the FCA Consumer Duty regulation
- Support the management and evolution of the UK Life FCA Consumer Duty framework
- Ongoing completion of the monthly UK Life Governance Scorecard outlining the position of the overall control environment. Develop and hold oversight for a Pan-Life monthly governance scorecard; reviewing monthly governance data to pro-actively identify and manage trends
- Maintain awareness of regulatory developments and support the business in assessing impacts and improving controls where necessary to ensure that we comply with new regulations
- Coordinate information requests from the FCA
- Coordinate Audit and Assurance Review information, liaising with both Group Internal Audit and Compliance
- Oversight of the UK Key Risk Takers (KRT) Report and Action Plans
- Review, design and implement robust internal policies, frameworks, procedures etc. to improve governance across the business
- Contribute to the shaping of reports and Board papers; ensure papers accurately and clearly present information
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across 1st, 2nd and 3rd line business areas.
- Participate in governance committees and working groups to influence and drive governance best practices
- Participate in and provide support to UK Life Governance action plan, action plan tracking and general oversight of pan-Life governance activity
- Identify areas for simplifying processes to improve customer outcomes, whilst keeping the Life business safe
Who are we looking for?
- An understanding of the UK Life regulatory landscape; with a focus on the application of regulation within the Life insurance (intermediated and direct to consumer) industry would be advantageous, but not essential
- Proven record of building strong and constructive relationships (internal and external).
- Ability to articulate sophisticated concepts simply with excellent writing skills and a keen eye for detail
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities in a fast-moving environment with strong planning and organisational skills
- Passionate about Customers and with good problem-solving skills, driving through continuous improvement
