Job Introduction
We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior DevOps Engineer for our Transport Tribe. The role is within our Technology Directorate, and you will join a dedicated DevOps team responsible for the maintenance and ongoing support of systems that process and distribute vast amounts of critical data. The specific role within the Transport Tribe builds and support services for regulated and commercial solutions in this sector to benefit the UK. Key to this remit is our role within the Aviation sector and our status as a World Area Forecast Centre (WAFC).
From edge computing to supercomputing, at the Met Office, we use a diverse set of cutting-edge technologies to drive our innovative projects. Our tech stack includes Python and JavaScript for a wide range of applications, from scientific computing to web development. Our cloud infrastructure spans AWS and Azure, where we embrace containerization using Docker and serverless architectures to ensure scalability and efficiency. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, your total reward package will be up to £65,568 annually which includes;
- £43,081 base pay
- An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%.
- Recruitment Retention allowance (RRA) you will be paid £5,300 per annum market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until March 2026 in your monthly pay
- Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
What You’ll Bring to the Role
We're looking for someone who meets the following Essential Criteria for this role:
- Modern Development Standards. In Transport we utlilise systems and standards such as GitHub, AWS services and Jira and you are confident in your experience with these and can apply them to support complex projects and programmes. You can support others with these systems and standards.
- Programming and build. You have the skills and experience to take ownership of Epics within DevOps and you’re happy to collaborate with others when necessary to review related specifications. You can use specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of up to a high level of complexity.
- Systems Design and Integration. You’re confident at designing systems characterised by medium levels of risk and impact, ensuring that appropriate design standards and tools are applied effectively. You can define the integration build; co-ordinate build activities across systems to undertake and support integration testing activities.
- User focus and Service Support. You have experience in collaborating with user researchers and representing users internally and able to prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so. You are confident in identifying, locating and fixing complex faults and advise others on different methodologies and support types while maintaining a customer focus.
- Information Security: You can understand information security, design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered with mitigation of security threats as a core feature.
