The
Safety Manager is
responsible to the Head of Safety, Compliance & Assurance for providing
guidance and direction for the planning and implementation of the Safety
Management System (SMS).
The
primary responsibility of the Safety Manager is overseeing and enforcing all
safety measures ensuring that personnel follow safe practices within the
organisation.
Core Activity:
- Managing the implementation of the Safety Management System to deliver
the policy and objectives and ensure they meet the requirements of customer,
legislation and regulation - Monitoring safety concerns in the aviation industry and their perceived
impact on the organisation’s operations aimed at service delivery
- Ensuring the dissemination of the SMS policy and supporting objectives
and targets
- Performing hazard identification and risk analysis utilising processes
with relevant transfer and escalation to the appropriate members of the
organisation
- Measuring and reporting of the SMS performance in accordance with the Safety
Exposition and Procedures
- Collecting internal live safety data to enable continuous improvement
- Facilitation of the safety review structure across the business
- Representing the business across the organisation and customer interface
safety committees
- Responsibility for the planning and facilitation of competency
requirements and supporting training interventions
- Ensuring a closed loop communication route for safety risk information within
and across organisations
- Acting as an information conduit to bring significant safety issues to
the attention of management and to deliver safety information to the
organisation’s staff, contractors and stakeholders
- Promoting a safety culture and provide information, advice and coaching
to the relevant stakeholders
- Monitoring corrective actions and evaluating their results
- Managing
and controls costs and budgets and performance
- Working
with senior management to generate, drive and implement long term improvements
in order to enhance safety performance or overcome non-compliance across
departments/functions
- Through
coordination with other departments, ensuring integration of the SMS within the
business, including the deployment and use of IT solutions across the business,
for the management of safety
- Primary focus is outward looking, across
departments and functions. Applying developed communication skills, demonstrating
diplomacy and an ability to negotiate with, influence, convince, shape and
change the behaviours of others.
Requirements
- A
relevant degree/ HND or HNC, or relevant/equivalent vocational experience.
- Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate regulatory
requirements e.g. European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
- Ability to support a continuous improvement culture underpinned by
appropriate management reporting systems and escalation processes
- This
role will ensure the effectiveness of the service SMS in accordance with the
exposition and ensure provision of safety data and reports in line with
contractual requirements
- A
good knowledge of aviation maintenance processes and safety management systems
- Would
be expected to have people management responsibilities
- Has had a
minimum of 4 years’ experience working within safety within an EASA regulated
environment
