Salary: £54,793-£60,326 Dependent of skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and agree qualification and certification strategies for new and ongoing programmes, ensuring alignment with project goals and regulatory requirements
- Lead and manage a team responsible for producing key qualification and clearance documentation—including Systems Qualification Statements, Qualification Programme Plans, and Test Requirement Documents—in accordance with programme timelines.
- Conduct in-depth technical assessments to evaluate whether certification evidence is complete, traceable, and sufficient to support the intended system clearances
- Review and formally approve certification packages, presenting them to the Technical Authority for final authorisation
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as Airworthiness and Flight Operations, to obtain independent assessment and approval of system clearances
- Oversee and maintain the tracking of clearance baselines across complex product portfolios, ensuring consistency and compliance throughout the lifecycle of each programme
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
- A degree in a STEM subject or equivalent with relevant experience gained on an aircraft engineering project or related field
- Experience working to certification processes, and knowledge of different certification standards
- Experience applying robust configuration control Must have an eye for technical detail, to establish evidence traceability and identify/challenge shortfalls
- Previous experience in the Aerospace / Defence industry
Desirable
- Knowledge of Typhoon Avionics development processes and toolsets
- Experience in liaising and managing customer and supplier relationships.
- Knowledge of the Typhoon Avionics System / Displays and Controls Sub-System.
- Capable of managing team workload and resource; supporting the D&C Engineering Manager with resource planning

The Qualification & Certification Team:
As the Qualification & Certification (Q&C) Team Leader within the Typhoon Displays & Controls (D&C) function, you will lead a team responsible for delivering qualification plans, defining test requirements, and managing certification activities. This role involves close collaboration with internal D&C teams—such as Sub-System Design, Software Development, and System Safety—as well as key external stakeholders, including Weapon System Engineering, Airworthiness, Flight Operations, Eurofighter, and the UK Ministry of Defence.
Reporting to the D&C Engineering Manager, you will operate within the broader Platform Systems Engineering organisation at BAE Systems Air.
This is a particularly exciting time to join the team, as it gears up to support and deliver strategically important programmes. As a key member of the Q&C team, you will have the opportunity to directly influence the release of major platform capabilities to both Core Nation and Export customers of the Typhoon programme.
Given the critical nature of certification delivery within D&C, this role offers high visibility across the business and valuable insight into strategic defence programmes.
