About the role
Are you passionate about harnessing the power of artificial intelligence whilst ensuring it’s done the right way? At Hargreaves Lansdown, we are on a journey to shape the future of responsible AI use, and we’re looking for an AI Governance Manager to join our dynamic Digital & Data Oversight team. This is a unique opportunity to drive positive impact, guide ethical AI practices, and help safeguard our clients and business as we embrace cutting-edge technologies.
What you’ll be doing
- Design and shape HL’s AI governance: Create and roll out frameworks, policies, and standards for responsible AI use that align with HL’s values, regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Manage our AI risk exposure: Develop AI impact assessment methodologies; create and maintain an AI system inventory and classification framework based on risk levels and use cases.
- Lead on ethical approach to AI: Develop and embed ethical principles for AI development and deployment, addressing fairness, transparency, accountability and human rights considerations.
- Be an advocate on best practice AI usage: Champion responsible AI practices across technical and business teams through education, guidance and consultation. Build awareness and capability through training programmes, workshops, and communication initiatives.
- You'll engage, collaborate and represent: Work with cross-functional teams including data science, engineering, legal, compliance and business teams, providing advice and thought-leadership on AI ethics, risk and governance. Represent HL in industry forums and working groups.
- Stay ahead of the curve: Monitor and evolving and emerging AI regulations and standards, assessing implications for HL, and ensuring our frameworks and practices are compliant and up to date.
About you
- You’re experienced in highly regulated sectors such as financial services, healthcare, or government.
- You have in-depth knowledge of AI and data governance frameworks (GDPR, EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO standards) and a track record of developing and embedding best practice oversight.
- Strategic, analytical and adaptable, you thrive in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory landscape and approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to navigate complex, ethical dilemmas, coupled with strong technical understanding, to provide principled guidance.
- Exceptional communicator: you can translate complex technical and ethical issues for everyone from board members to engineers.
- You’re a natural collaborator. Adept at building strong relationships and influencing, engaging and gaining buy-in across all levels of the organisation, including from senior stakeholders.
- Experienced in working with software development and infrastructure teams, with a knowledge of Agile methodologies.
- You hold certifications in privacy, risk management, or AI ethics (e.g. CIPP, CIPM, CRISC, CISM) or bring the equivalent in hands-on experience.
- You’re committed to professional development, staying on top of regulatory knowledge and sharing your expertise with colleagues and through industry forums.
Interview process
The interview process for this role is two stages including a technical competency-based question and a task.
Working Schedule
This role is based in Bristol head office, BS1 5HL. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We have returned to the office, however for this role we offer a hybrid flexible working pattern.
