This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year in Industry placement, commencing at the start of July 2026. Developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us.
You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placements all over the Met Office and understand what career opportunities are on offer at the Met Office after you graduate.
We’re looking for two Software Developer Industrial Placements 2026 to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Software Developer Industrial Placement 2026, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work. As an Industrial Placement, we would expect you to attend the office once a week as a minimum.
Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we'll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an area of Technology who are working to deliver the next generation of products and services that the support the global aviation industry. The Met Office is one of two World Area Forecast Centres, which are responsible for issuing weather information to every flight that takes off across the globe.
On your Industrial Placement in Transport, you will have space to learn and work in an Agile team. You will work together to understand, design and deliver visualisation tools and data applications to meet the needs of our customers. This is a fantastic opportunity to build and maintain services that support safety critical decision making on a global scale.
